IFP has been working on four major disciplinary verticals viz. Sanskrit studies, Ecology and Environment, Social Sciences and Geospatial monitoring and Information Technology. Apart from these major research verticals, it also houses a number of collections in many of these areas such as palm-leaf manuscripts on Shaiva Siddhantha, photo archives, pollen collection, herbarium and historical documents. Many ongoing projects enrich these collections with images and original sources of texts. Through the last two decades IFP has been developing various web applications to valorise its research results, building tools to better organise the data of different collections and publish specific thematic products from its collections.

IFP is looking for a full stack developer to be part of its informatics team contributing to its software development effort for valorising its research outputs and its valuable collections. In this role, the developer would primarily:

  • evaluate existing web applications and develop a strategy for redeploying legacy applications
  • build secure and flexible tools to efficiently manage data of different collections
  • develop and deploy new web and mobile applications for different products resulting from IFP’s research activities and collections

The developer is expected to:

  • participate in the conception and development of web/mobile applications with good visual design
  • write clean and functional code on front-end and back-end
  • test, debug, troubleshoot and upgrade applications

Requirements:

Essential: Degree in Computer Science from a reputed institution

Essential: Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer with common stacks

Essential: Proficiency in back-end languages (Java, Python) and front-end languages (HTML/CSS, Javascript)

Essential: Familiarity with Javascript frameworks (angular, node and react)

Essential: Familiarity with SQL (mysql/postgresql) and noSQL(mongo/couchdb) databases

Essential: Webservers (Apache/nginx)

Optional: Understanding of spatial data, technologies and GIS

The developer, with convincing orientation towards free and open source software development, would display initiative and self-organise to meet commitments and play as a good team member, with quick learning and troubleshooting attitude. With inquisitiveness and willing to experiment she or he will pay meticulous attention to detail with solid communication skills.

Duration of employment:

Initially for a period of one year, with a fair possibility of extension based on available funding and performance.

Salary will commensurate with skill sets and experience.
