L'Empereur's Garden : Herbals and herbaria at cultural crossroads

Abstract: The history of botany as a scientific discipline intersects with those of great cultural exchanges. "Le Jardin de Lorixa", one of the very first European illustrated herbals on South Asian flora, is a witness to this history, which continues to this day through North-South scientific cooperation. Following a screening of the short movie "L'Empereur's Garden" (dir: Mukesh Kumaravel) a discussion will take place between our panel composed of historians of sciences, curators, botanists and archivists.
