This book is about the relationships between pollinators, flowers and agriculture in Puducherry, and how they sustain the incredible biodiversity of our region. It introduces the Puducherry bioregion, explains pollination, the native honeybees and other pollinators, the variety of hives and the links between humans and bees. We discuss benefits for farmers, how we can help pollinators and revive beekeeping using low cost, low maintenance clay pot-hives. It is based on ongoing interdisciplinary research, presented in a simple way using images and illustrations to reach anyone who wants to know about the role of these tiny creatures in a fast-urbanizing world.

Ammel Sharon is a PhD Candidate at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (CSSSC), and an amateur beekeeper and has been involved in the Local Food Systems project.

Anupama, K. & Prasad, S. are palynologists in the Department of Ecology (IFP) where Lazar, J. is exploring the foraging preferences of our native honeybees using pollen for his PhD and Indhu, A., with a background in agriculture and ecology by training was a research assistant in the POLLIN project.

J. Andrieu is head of the Department of Geomatics at IFP where Narpavi, S. completed an internship in mapping.

Hélène Guétat-Bernard is professor of sociology in the Ministry of agriculture and food in France, Toulouse university. She was the head of the social sciences department of IFP from 2017-2021 and she initiated the creation of the food platform.

Amuthavalluvan V. is an anthroplogist and is pursuing his PhD at Pondicherry University. He was research assistant on the POLLIN project.

Nicola Gallai is a lecturer in economics at the Federal University of Toulouse within the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de l'Enseignement Agricole (ENSFEA). He is a researcher at the Laboratory of Studies and Research on Economics, Policies and Social Systems (LEREPS). His work focuses on the economic analysis of the interaction between ecosystem services and our society.

F. Landy, a professor of Social Geography at the university of Paris Nanterre, is a former director of IFP.

Kiran Joan is an illustrator based in Baltimore, USA.

Ce livre traite des relations entre les pollinisateurs, les fleurs et l'agriculture à Pondicherry, et explique comment elles sont à la base de l'incroyable biodiversité de notre région. L'objectif de l’ouvrage est de présenter la biorégion de Pondicherry, la pollinisation, les espèces locales d’abeilles et les autres pollinisateurs, la variété des ruches et les liens entre humains et abeilles. Nous témoignons également des avantages pour les agriculteurs et présentons des stratégies favorisant les pollinisateurs, notamment l’utilisation de ruches en pots de terre, peu coûteuses et nécessitant peu d'entretien. Cette brochure est basée sur une recherche interdisciplinaire en cours, mais nos résultats sont présentés de manière simple, à l'aide de nombreuses illustrations, afin de toucher tous ceux qui souhaitent connaître le rôle de ces minuscules créatures dans un monde qui s'urbanise si rapidement.

Hélène Guétat-Bernard est professeur de sociologie au ministère français de l’agriculture et de l’alimentation. Elle a été la responsable du département de sciences sociales de l’IFP de 2017 à 2021 et elle a initié la création de la plateforme alimentation.

Amuthavalluvan V. est anthropologue et poursuit son doctorat à l'Université de Pondichéry. Il a été assistant de recherche sur le projet POLLIN.

Nicola Gallai est maître de conférences en économie à l'Université Fédérale de Toulouse au sein de l'École Nationale Supérieure de Formation de l’Enseignement Agricole (ENSFEA). Il est chercheur au Laboratoire d'Étude et de Recherche sur l'Économie, les Politiques et les Systèmes Sociaux (LEREPS). Ses travaux portent sur l'analyse économique de l'interaction entre les services écosystémiques et notre société.

F. Landy, professeur de géographie sociale à l'université de Paris Nanterre, est un ancien directeur de l'IFP.

Kiran Joan est une illustratrice basée à Baltimore, aux États-Unis.
