Seats available to participate in an INQUA-funded workshop ‘Palaeoanthropological Perspectives on Plant Communities in South Asia’
Attention students and early career research scientists in South Asia working in the fields of archaeology, anthropology and botany! : 10 seats are available to participate in an INQUA (http://www.inqua.org/) funded workshop ‘Palaeoanthropological Perspectives on Plant Communities in South Asia’, jointly organized by the Sharma Centre for Heritage Education (http://www.sharmaheritage.com/) and The French Institute of Pondicherry (www.ifpindia.org). Dates: 27th October to 2nd November, 2014. Nature: This comprises a training workshop and discussions on phytoliths in the context of prehistory, experimental archaeology and ethnobotany in South Asia. The workshop seeks to situate our ongoing research on phytoliths at the Palaeolithic site of Attirampakkam, Tamil Nadu, South India, in a wider perspective. This would aim at introducing young researchers in the fields of prehistory and palaeobotany to the use of opal phytoliths to understand the prehistoric use of wild plant resources and adaptation to changing palaeoenvironments in South Asia. We seek to establish research networks of scientists working in South Asia for developing integrated approaches towards the study of past vegetation and plant use at prehistoric sites, ranging from the Early Pleistocene to mid-Holocene. Please email Dr. Anupama Krishnamurty at anupama.k@ifpindia.org and Dr. Kumar Akhilesh at: akhilarchaeo@gmail.com, sharmaheritage@gmail.com. Send us your c.v and motivation letter clearly stating reasons why this workshop will be useful for your career.
