The second workshop of the ANR program “Pāṇini and the Pāṇinīyas in the 16thand 17th centuries” will be held in Pondicherry from the 21st to the 25th October 2013.
The theme is “The Grammatical Example within Grammar, Lexicon and Verbal Usage”.
In the context of the two major sources for this program: the Dictionary of the Examples of the Pāṇinian Grammar (PUK) and Nārāyaṇa Bhaṭṭa’s Prakriyāsarvasva (PS), the notion of “example” will be investigated from different angles:
From a grammatical point of view: role, form, types of grammatical examples (examples proper, counter-examples, incidental examples);
From a lexical point of view: comparison of databases, namely the PUK and PS, with both older and more recent lexicons; from a lexicographical point of view as far as the PUK is concerned: presentation of the examples, form of the articles, printed and electronic versions, etc.
From the point of view of usage (prayoga): discussions on controversial examples, the rejection or acceptance as non-pāṇinian (apāṇinīya-pramāṇatā), the authority of certain literary authors (Murāri, etc.)
