Objectives

Radhakrishnan (Pondicherry University) will be discussing some of the critical issues appeared in the interpretative text of Narayanapandita, Vivarana, a late 16th century commentary on Kumarasambhava of Kalidasa. This includes a discussion of important figures of speech used by the author, grammatical and semantic problems, the relation of the text with later literary theories, and explicating some Pauranic references and their contextual place in the text and story of the Kumarasambhava.

Programme

The workshop is meant to help Mr. Amer in his doctoral thesis on the text of the Kumarasambhava and its later commentaries. The two days workshop will be wholly conducted by Prof. C.S. Radhakrishnan, who agreed to go through the interpretative Sanskrit text of Narayanapandita. The first session will be from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm, and the second from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm (day 1 and 2).
