February 19 Marie-Paule SERRE, Director of the Alliance française in Chennai, met the IFP Director, Dr. Jean-Pierre MULLER and the Head of the Ecology Department, Dr. Raphaël PELISSIER to discuss on how the IFP could contribute to a one-week event on the theme of water management and biodiversity, which will be organised at the Alliance française of Chennai in the month of April 2008. They envisaged, notably, of presenting the recently produced DVD by the IFP "Bittersweet waters", that deals with water management in South India, as well as the open source weed identification software developped by the IFP, named OSCAR.

February 11 A group from the “Franco-Indian Friendship of Franche-Comté” (AFIFC), France, came to the Institute, where Jean DELOCHE showed them his exhibition entitled Old Pondicherry (1673-1824) revisited which gives a comprehensive picture of the Urban Development of the town from 1673 to 1824.
February 5 Sannyasin ARUMUGASWAMI and Sannyasin SENTHILNATHASWAMI. visited the Institute and were presented the manuscript collection by the Head of the EFEO Centre in Pondicherry, Dr. Dominic GOODALL. They took some photographs of the Yogajaagama and Candrajnaanaagama manuscripts and then discussed with the Director, Dr. Jean-Pierre MULLER, on possibilities for access to these manuscripts (see photo).
January 21 A small group of students from the Veda Agama Samskrutha Maha Pathasala situated in the Sri Sri Gurukul, Vedic Heritage Campus, Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peetam, Bangalore led by their principal Sri. A.S. Sundaramurthy Sivam paid a visit to the French Institute. They expressed their desire to establish a fruitful collaboration between the Indology Department, French Institute and the Veda Agama Samskrutha Maha Pathasala, Bangalore. In that direction Sri. A.S. Sundaramurthy SIVAM held discussions with Prof. Bruno DAGENS, Pandit SAMBANDHAN and Dr. T. GANESAN. The team then met Mr. J-P. MULLER, the director French Institute. The Principal Sri. A.S. Sundaramurthy Sivam briefly mentioned to Mr. MULLER the possible plan of regular collaboration between the two institutions in future. The team then visited the Jean Filliozat Manuscript Room and avidly went through the manuscript collection (see photo).
February 4 Dr. Alexander DUBIANSKY, Professor of Tamil from the Moscow State University, Dr. Mouna GURU, Professor of fine Arts from the Eastern University, Mattakkalappu, Srilanka, and Dr. Chitralekha Mouna GURU, Professor of English from the same University, met with KANNAN.M to discuss matters related to the Contemporary Tamil culture programme.
January 16 Dr. Elisabeth SETHUPATHY, Professor of Tamil at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), Paris, came to the Institute for three days, and discussed with the Director, Dr. Jean-Pierre MULLER and KANNAN. M on possible formal collaboration between the Contemporary Tamil Culture Research programme of the IFP and the INALCO, Paris.
January 16 Prof. R.E. ASHER, Honorary Fellow from the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences of the University of Edinburgh, UK, came to the Institute to discuss with KANNAN.M and Prof SUBBARAYALU on aspects related to the programmes Contemporary Tamil Culture and Historical Atlas.
January 16 Prof. David BUCK from the Elizabethtown Community College, Elizabethtown, United States, came to the Institute to discuss with KANNAN.M about the translation of Dalit literature and about the Contemporary Tamil Culture programme.
April 1 S. Selvakumar and V.P. Yathees Kumar, two Ph.D candidates in Archeology from the Tamil University of Thanjavur, joined the project as Field Assistants from April 1, 2008 to May 31, 2008, to particpate in various works of the project under the supervision of Prof. SUBBARAYALU.
February 15 Dr. V. VEDACHALAM from Madurai, joined the project to work as an external researcher till March 15, 2008 under the supervision of Prof. SUBBARAYALU.
July 3 Jean-Michel CREISMEAS, doctoral student at the University of Paris III, France, joined the Sukshmagama project team from July 3 to August 14, 2008, to work on activities related to the "ARCUS" project, under the supervision of Pandit S. SAMBANDAN.
March 24 G. Arun KUMAR and Anandha Ganesha PRASAD, both students from the Veda Agama Samskrutha Maha Patashala, Bangalore, joined the project as trainees, from March 24, to April 30, 2008 and then from June 2 to December 31, 2008, to carry out editing work of Sukshmagama under the supervision of Dr. T. GANESAN.
Department of Ecology
April 22 A group of 24 students of II.B.Sc (Forestry) level at the Forest College and Research Institute of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University visited the institute along with two of their staff members. They were presented the activities of the Ecology Department by Dr. B.R RAMESH and then those of the Geomatics Laboratory by Mr. MUTHUSANKAR, GIS Engineer.
February 4 A delegation from the French National Institute for Agronomic Research (INRA), comprising of Mr. Bernard CHARPENTIER (Director of the Mission for International Relations of the INRA), Mr. Yves GRIVEAU (In-charge of the Asia&Pacific Mission for International Relations of the INRA), Mrs. Lucie CHEYNIER (INRA / CIRAD delegate in New Delhi for the development of cooperation with Indian institutions) and Mr. Pierre COUTERON (Research Director at the IRD and previous Head of the Ecology Department of the IFP) visited the Institute. They were given a general presentation of the activities at the IFP by the Director, Dr. Jean-Pierre MULLER, and then proceeded to a presentation by each Head of Department of the different projects led in their own Departments. Historical perspectives, current and future projects, partnerships were among the topics discussed. A visit to the Pondicherry University and to the Pondicherry Engineering College followed by a debriefing session at the IFP, concluded this visit. This visit was intended to prepare the coming one in March, of Guy RIBA, delegate Director General of the INRA for scientific programming and evaluation
