This lecture aims to provide an insight on indicators to be used in a multi-criteria approach to sustainable development, through :
- Characterisation of the attitudes of industry towards the environment and towards environmental regulations.
- Identification of the ways through which strong environmental regulation can encourage innovation for cleaner processes, products or industrial systems.
- Presentation of a set of indicators and index of environmental performance.
- Discussion of the analytical framework proposed by the European commission to assess the sustainability impacts of international trade measure.
- Discussion of aggregate index versus multi-criteria approaches.
