Objectives

Les acteurs du secteur social en Inde Actually in India, a multiplicity of actors intervene in the sector of the social action. The voluntary organisations presented to be in growth, seems to occupy an important space, in terms of exchanges at different levels : politic, economic, social and religious, on the Indian territory. The role and legitimacy of these organisations are welcomed or disparaged by the nationals or internationals actors. This third sector is alternatively presented as the “way of excellence”, the “solution” or “the way that pave the post imperialism and globalisation possible”. The main issue of this thesis is to analyse the place and role of the voluntary sector in India, from the Welfare State to the non-governmental State, by is social actors .

The social action isn’t a new event in India and have evolutes much especially since the Independence and seems to get professionalize. The social action sector have a wide range and multiples entities such as : NGO, governments institutions and agencies, social movements, political parties, etc.. As the socials and economics inequalities prevail and persist, what is the role of social action in the production of social changes and is ability to produce solidarities.

Materials and Methods

The study is conducted through

  • a review of the history of the social action sector from the 19th century till now : evolutions influences and perspectives
  • a review of the history of the schools of social work in India (from Tata Institute of Social Sciences) : evolution, limits, networks, research works, links and exchanges with the voluntary sector and governmental agencies
  • an analyse of the different social work by the national and international actors, professionals or para - professionals, scientifics, and beneficiaries
  • a case study of one school of social work : formation, content of lectures, profiles of the students as well as the professors, filed work practice (with two others schools perspectives)
  • case studies (monography) of NGOs that employ train and untrained social workers
