Comparative Perspectives (Land : lessons and stakes) 17th -19th march 2006

Home > News > Seminars & Events

Aim

The aim of the conference was to explore the current issues and challenges related to Land Law and natural resources management from an interdisciplinary and from a comparative perspective. The conference brought together scholars with a legal background and social scientists from India and from abroad. Thus the "comparative perspectives" refer as much to the international comparisons as to the interdisciplinary nature of the conference.

The comparison started from concrete case studies which lead to more general comparisons. Each panel explored a different facet of the problématique of land law and natural ressources’ management which was always enlightened via the different contributions and the crossing of their perspectives. The seven issues that were addressed were :

  • Panel 1 : The Challenges of Water Management
  • Panel 2 : The Challenges of Forest Management
  • Panel 3 : The Challenge of Women’s Rights
  • Panel 4 : The Question of Land Reforms
  • Panel 5 : The Challenges of Participation
  • Panel 6 : The stakes of the merchandization of land & of private property
  • Panel 7 : Environmental and Emerging Challenges in Natural Ressources Management
