Labelling traditional ecological knowledge to valorise and conserve biological and cultural diversity. - The ANR Biodivalloc research project
Home > News > Seminars & Events
Traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and its promotion through labelling are considered with increased interest within the scope of nature protection, as a way to tackle both biodiversity conservation and development issues, and to strengthen the links between local populations and the biodiversity surrounding them. In developing countries, geographical indications (GI), eco-certification, park
trademarks and fair trade labels are the more frequently tested labelling schemes.
The aim of this project is to examine the connection and consistency between the devices and norms that shape those instruments and the biodiversity management practices and local representations, and to determine the conditions of use of those tools for ensuring the valorisation and conservation of biological and cultural diversity. This question will be addressed through an interdisciplinary (anthropology, geography, economics, ethnobiology, ecology and law studies) and comparative approach, building upon differentiated study sites and objects spread over three continents, Africa, South America and South Asia, especially India.
