This round-table is a workshop to build a reflexion about the HIV/Aids Mother to Child Transmission in India. The purpose of this meeting is to strenghten the Indo-French cooperation in HIV/Aids researches by gathering different Indian and French specialists.

A specific objective of this workshop is to enrich the Indo-French programme about breast-feeding and HIV/Aids in South-India conducted by the French Institute of Pondicherry (Department of Social Sciences). This programme – supported by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, France - is developing an original study through anthropological and social-psychological approaches, in collaboration with YRG Centre of Aids Research and Education (Chennai, India) and in coordination with the Laboratory of Human Ecology and Anthropology (University of Aix-Marseilles, France).

This workshop is conceived to develop discussions and interactions with all the participants. Four sessions will be proposed with 2 to 3 papers presented in each one. A large part of the sessions will be devoted to the discussion animated by the team of the programme “Breast-feeding and Aids in India” of the French Institute.

The papers and the synthesis of the discussions of this meeting will be published in a proceeding, and will constitute a first step in the Indo-French cooperation to analyse some relevant issues about MTCT in India and to highlight the social sciences point of view.
