Implementing an open-source webmapping solution

Web mapping is the process of map publication in digital format. From proprietary to open-source softwares, the proposal of web mapping solutions is getting bigger and more and more efficient in terms of geographical use & capabilities.

In collaboration with the Ecology Departement, the Geomatic Laboratory worked on a pilot project of web mapping applied to the forestry dataset of Thiruvananthapuram – Tirunelveli. After having taken a census of both server and client sides’open-sources solutions, we have made an assessment of final-user interface solution based on Mapserver. The lecture will detail step by step this process of map publication, the chosen technology abilities through some practical examples and new perspectives offered by web mapping.
