The Laboratory of Applied Informatics and Geomatics (LIAG) has become in two years one of the "pillars" of the Institute. It is the main actor in several research projects conducted in the three departments of the Institute (Indology, Social Sciences and Ecology) for which solid skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and in new technologies in information and communication (NTIC) are required: ecology of landscapes, historical atlas of South India, economic atlas of India, computer assisted botanical identification system, interactive mapping via Internet, etc.
The Laboratory, henceforth, is assigned to two thirds of projects in IFP. The celebration of the golden jubilee of the Institute had been the occasion to present around 20 panels reflecting the statecraft of this laboratory in applications to New Technologies in Information and Communication (acquisition, processing and plotting of data) to sciences of the environment, of mankind and of society.
