January 21 Jenni BALASUBRAMANIAN joined the Institute part-time from January 21 to February 20, 2010, to present the exhibition “Gateway to a new World : the Lazaret at La Grande chaloupe, Reunion island” held at the IFP till March 2010.

February 8 Alexandre CEBEILLAC, Master 1 student in Geography at the University Paris 7, France, joined the Institute from February 8 to May 10, 2010, as a trainee, to work on “Man-made environments as habitats for wildlife and as tools in biological conservation : the case of tanks in southern India” under the supervision of Dr. K. ANUPAMA.

January 18 Ursula TORRES, M.Sc student at the University of Toulouse, France, joined the project from January 18 to April 30, 2010, as a trainee, to work on the “Distribution of cavity-nesting birds in the Western Ghats”, under the supervision of Dr. Claude GARCIA.

Département de Sciences Sociales

March 1 Dr. Julien Robert KAST, Research Professor at the CNRS, and specialist in matters related to risk, took up his post in the Department of Social Sciences of the IFP on March 1, 2010, for a two-year period. The arrival of Dr. KAST comes in the framework of the USR 3330 "Savoirs et Mondes Indiens" of the CNRS, which was recently constituted by the IFP and the CSH, and which permits to welcome at the IFP and at the CSH, researchers from the CNRS for different durations of time.

February 1 Franz FARDIN, PhD candidate in geography from the University Paris 8, France, joined the Institute from February 1 to September 12, 2010, to work on “The value of plants in the strategies of development of constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment”, under the supervision of Dr. Eric DENIS.

January 1 S. PONNARASU and David CHAKRAVARTHY joined the Institute on January 1, 2010, and V. KIRUSHNASAMY on February 1, 2010, all for a one-year period, to work on the project "Rescuing Tamil customary law : locating and copying endangered records of village judicial assemblies (1870-1940)" headed by Dr. Zoé HEADLEY and under the supervision of Dr. Eric DENIS.

February 15 Julien BORDAGI, M. Phil student in Geography at the University Paris 10, Nanterre, France, joined the project from February 15 to March 19, 2010, as a trainee, to work on “The influence of the legal definition of a city in the true dynamics of built up areas”, under the supervision of Dr. Eric DENIS.

January 26 Etienne NAJI, Master 1 student in Geography at the University Bordeaux 3, France, joined the project from January 26 to May 26, 2010, as a trainee, to work on “Decentralisation and strategy of development in a village of Pondicherry (Kodapakkam)”, under the supervision of Dr. Eric DENIS.

January 26 Julien GUEROULT, Master 1 student in Geography at the University Bordeaux 3, France, joined the project from January 26 to April 26, 2010, as a trainee, to work on “Access to drinking water in the south of the metropolitan are of Chennai”, under the supervision of Dr. Eric DENIS.

January 26 Paul BERTIN, Master 1 student in Geography at the University Bordeaux 3, France, joined the project from January 26 to April 26, 2010, as a trainee, to work, in the framework of the e-Geopolis project, on “New urban dynamics around Chennai metropolitan area : integrated business cities and SEZ prospects”, under the supervision of Dr. Eric DENIS.

February 26 Sarah HILLION, Ph.D candidate at the Montpellier 1 University/ERFI, France, joined the project from February 26 to May 3, 2010, to work on "Cross cultural management in humanitarian activities" under the supervision of Dr. Eric DENIS.

Laboratoire d’Informatique Appliquée et de Géomatique

February 8 Antoine FIVEL and Aline FOUBERT, Master 1 students in Geography at the University Paris 7, France, joined the Laboratory from February 8 to May 10, 2010, as trainees, to work on the “Assessment of vulnerability of rural populations with regards to access to water resources in the context of global changes”, in the framework of the SHIVA / e-Geopolis projects, and under the supervision of Dr. Frédéric BORNE.

Administration

February 8 A. JAYACELI joined the Institute from February 8 to December 31, 2010, to work as a receptionist under the supervision of the Secretary General, Yvan PRIKHODIKO.
