October 3 Sophie ARBORIO, a Ph.D student in Social Anthropology from GRIS, Rouen joined the department on October 3, 2004 to work on her project "Social anthropological approach of the HIV/Aids-Mother to Child transmissions : the case of breast feeding in South India" under the IFP project "Transmission of HIV/AIDS from Mother to Child" till April 30, 2005

Aug 17 Anand PAKIAM, joined the department from August 17, 2004 to January 16, 2005 for assembling social, analyse and restructure economic data on India in order to map them for integration in the Indian Economic Atlas developped by the project "Urban Development and Integration process of the Indian Territory" under the direction of Dr. Philippe Cadenne.

July 5 Cecile BARTHEZ, student from Edhec Business School, France joined the department from July 5, 2004 for a period of 1 month and half for traineeship to work on the project "Microfinance and Governance" under the direction of Dr. Isabelle Guerin.

May 5 Fanny JAMET, student from University Paris I - Sorbonne joined the department from May 5, 2004 for a period of 3 months to work on her research entitled "Identification of Public Spaces" in the project Microfinance and Governance under the direction of Dr. Isabelle Guerin.

March 20 Emmanuel GEORGEAIS, student from Catholic Institute of Paris joined the department from March 20, 2004 for a period of 5 months to work on his project "Socio-Political Anchorage of Organizations in Microfinance" in the project Microfinance and Governance under the direction of Dr. Isabelle Guerin.

Département d’Indologie

October 5 Dr. Vandana SINHA, assistant director - photo archive (AIIS Gurgaon) visited the Institute from October 5, 2005 to October 12, 2005 to assess the IFP photo archives collection, the database and to suggest new fields to be incorporated in the new database already prepared. She worked with the IFP photo archives section.

June 27 Perrine ESTIENNE, student from EPHE, France joined the department from June 27, 2004 to July 20, 2004 to work on her research entitled "Sanskrit Inscriptions of Oriental Calukyas" on the project Mallinatha : his Sanskrit Literary Commentaries under the direction of Dr. S.P. Narang.

June 1 L. NARENDRAN, specialist from Thanjavur joined the department from June 15 to August 13, 2004 to make inventory of manuscripts in villages situated in and around Pondicherry on the project PARAMPARA : Cataloguing and Preservation of the Manuscripts under the direction of Dr. T. Ganesan.

March 5 Corrine Lagarde CHAPDELAINE, from University Paris III, joined the department from March 5, 2004 to April 23, 2004 to work on her project "Poetry and Grammar", kavya (Bhattikavya et Mallinatha) ; vyakarana (panini)" under the protocol agreement between IFP and University of Paris III on the project Mallinatha : his Sanskrit Literary Commentaries under the direction of Dr. S.P. Narang.

January 1 N. SRINIVASAN, specialist from Thanjavur joined the department from January 1 to January 30, 2004 as Manuscripts Surveyor in villages situated in and around Pondicherry on the project PARAMPARA : Cataloguing and Preservation of the Manuscripts under the direction of Dr. T. Ganesan.

January 1 Carlos MENA, doctoral student in Tamil from Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, University of California, Berkeley, affiliated to the department from August 2003 to August 2004 worked on his thesis "Meaning, Function and relevance of the ancient Tamil Saiva Text TiruMantiram in Contemporary Tamil culture and society", under the project Contemporary Tamil. He worked under the direction of N. Kannan. He also co-organized a one-day seminar on Classical Tamil in Contemporary Tamil.

December 5 Camille ROGNANT, Master’s student in Geography from the Institut de Géographie, Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1) was affiliated to the IFP from December 5, 2004 to May 5, 2005 to work on her Master’s dissertation on "A large scale survey of an Irrigation system : Practices and Changes Around A Rain-Fed Reservoir and its Command Area - a Study from Melavalavu, South India" in the framework of the IFP project Palaeo Environments of South India under the supervision of Dr. K. Anupama

December 5 Nicolas PLOUMPIDIS, Master’s students in Geography from the Institut de Géographie, Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1) was affiliated to the IFP from December 5, 2004 to May 5, 2005 to work on his Master’s documentary film project in "Traditional Irrigation and Modern Challenges : a study from Virdachalam taluk, South India" in the framework of the IFP project Palaeo Environments of South India under the supervision of Dr. K. Anupama

December 5 Nathanael COSTE Master’s students in Geography from the Institut de Géographie, Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1) was affiliated to the IFP from December 5, 2004 to May 5, 2005 to work on his Master’s documentary film project in "Traditional Irrigation and Modern Challenges : a study from Virdachalam taluk, South India" in the framework of the IFP project Palaeo Environments of South India under the supervision of Dr. K. Anupama

December 2 Dr. Yanni Gunnell, researcher from Université Denis-Diderot (Paris 7) visited the Institute for 2 weeks from December 2, 2005 for discussions and joint fieldwork with the IFP team on Palaeo Environments of South India.

November 30 Dr. J. V. Thomas, scientist from EOS Programme office, ISRO Headquarters, Bangalore visited the Institute on November 30, 2004 for discussions with the IFP project team Palaeo Environments of South India on their ongoing collaborative project "Reconstruction of Palaeomonsoonal changes using sedimentary records from man made tanks in Southern India.

May 1 Goutam GAJULA, PhD Candidate & Fulbright DDRA Fellow, Columbia University, New York joined the department on May 1, 2004 for a period of 1 year to work on his research "The rule of sanctuary : the construction & transformation of its "sacred groves" (Kavu) in colonial & post colonial Kerala, India" under the project Landscape Analysis of Biodiversity in the Western Ghats with the direction of Dr. B.R.Ramesh.

February 11 Juliana PROSPERI, researcher from CIRAD, France joined the department on February 11, 2004 to April 6, 2004 to participate in the OSCAR meeting held in Pondicherry and prepare project proposal for BIOTIK and participate in the joint project between Cirad and IFP under the direction of Pierre Grard.

January 1 ARULRAJ V. student from Pondicherry Engineering College, joined the department from January 1 to June 30, 2004 to work on his project entitled : "Web based database of Palaeoenvironmental Datasets" under the project Palaeoenvironments in South India under direction of Dr. K. Anupama.

January 1 VIJAYALAKSHMI A. student from Pondicherry Engineering College joined the department from January 1 to June 30, 2004 to work on her research entitled "Eco-species identification kit." of the Tools for national capacity building in Taxonomy project under the direction of Dr. Pierre Grard.

Laboratoire de Géomatique

August 1 N. Uma SANKARI, professional from Chennai joined the laboratory on August 1, 2004 for a period of 2-3 years to work on Software development for OSCAR and BIOTIK projects (EC programme Asia IT&C) under the direction of Dr. Danny Lo Seen.

June 29 Thomas SEYLER, student from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine joined the Geomatics and Applied Informatics Laboratory from June 29, 2004 for a period of 2 months to work on "Spatial and Temporal Epidemiology of Vector-Borne Diseases in Chennai - the case of Malaria and Dengue Fever" for the project under preparation "GIS and Vector-borne diseases" under the direction of Dr. Danny Lo Seen.

February 18 N. RAVICHANDRAN, professional from Bangalore joined the Geomatics and Applied Informatics Laboratory from February 18, 2004 till December 31, 2004 as Multimedia Specialist to design and develop Posters, Book Covers, CD Covers, Website Design and Maintenance, and interactive CD-ROMs. He is working under the direction of Dr. Danny Lo Seen.

January 1 T. KAVITHA from the Pondicherry Engineering College joined the Geomatics and Applied Informatics Laboratory from January 1 to May 30, 2004 to work on a project entitled "Web Map Navigation" under the direction of Dr. Danny Lo Seen. She developed a web-based application prototype for displaying maps of the Vegetation Maps of South India series on the Internet.

July 1 Hema DORIA, student from IUT Ponsan-Rangueil, Toulouse, France joined the Library from July 1, 2004 for a period of 1 and half months for training in documentation/communication under the direction of Ms. Anurupa Naik.
