After Tsunami : Lessons Learnt and Future Strategies

26th Dec 2004 has been a black day in the history of mankind when the lush blue sea turned her killer waves in the name of Tsunami a name which was not heard much till then. Several countries with coastal belts paid heavily for the nature’s fury including the South Indian coasts. The effect was felt as far as the coasts of the gulf region and Africa.

The Tamilnadu coast was one such heavily affected dislocating many persons of their living. Cutting across the barrier of nations many came forward to relocate and rehabilitate the affected and organized efforts have been made in this direction in the coastal districts of Cuddalore, Kanyakumari and Puducherry. Several such programs are nearing completion and it is time now to re-look retrospectively whether it has achieved the target goal, whether it has put the smiles back on the affected people socially. With this background, VRD (German Returnees Association) Chennai, in association with Max Muller Bhavan (Chennai), German Consulate (Chennai) and French Institute of Pondicherry is conducting a workshop on ”After Tsunami: Lessons Learnt and Future Strategies”, on 24th February 2007 at French Institute of Pondicherry.

This workshop aims at throwing light on these aspects through the expert lectures from resource persons who have been actually involved in these schemes and throwing open for discussions in the panel discussion and the workshop is expected to come out with appropriate strategies for the sustenance of the society against this kind of disaster.
