The exportation of homeopathy: the case of South India

Home > News

Homeopathy is not only one of the oldest of the “alternative medicines”, but also the most used and the most tolerated by the medical profession. The reasons for its success, as well as homeopathy’s ability to go beyond time and oceans, make it a privileged object of study for comparative anthropology.

In India, homeopathy has been subjected to different specific adjustments and transformations as early as the 19th century. Still not properly known, the social dynamics of homeopathy in this country will be explored during a workshop co-organized by the University of Louvain-La-Neuve and the IFP. This event will be held in Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium, on November 28, 2007. It will mark the ending of a project led for the past two years by these two institutions thanks to the support of the French Agency for the French-speaking world (AUF)
