The Saiva manuscripts housed in the IFP are included in UNESCO’s “Memory of the World” Register, thanks to a Franco-Indian project that was jointly submitted in June 2004 by the IFP, the EFEO and the National Mission for Manuscripts of the Indian government.

The inscription was celebrated at the IFP on March 30th, 2006, at 5:00 pm, in the presence of the Governor of Pondicherry, the Ambassador of France in India, the Regional Adviser for Communication and Information of the UNESCO in India and the Director of the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM), Government of India.

New arrangements have been set in place for the cataloguing and digitization of these manuscripts. This project, conducted by the IFP and the EFEO, has as its final goal of making a copy of these manuscripts, accessible over the Internet.
