The School of Higher Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS) and the French Institute of Pondicherry, organized, in close collaboration, a summer school spanning from February 27 to March 7, 2008, in Pondicherry, on the theme of health, for Indian and European students of Masters level or more. This theme on health, developed without confining itself to the Indian context, was explored through several different aspects: health and well-being, medicine, health legislation and bioethics, medical practices and institutions, both ancient and modern.
Teachers and researchers from the EHESS and researchers from the IFP, met Indian teachers and researchers in Pondicherry, for an intensive week of seminars and workshops on these issues. The objective of this school, co-funded by the IFP and the EHESS, was to reinforce the Indo-French scientific cooperation. The leaders of this project were, in Paris (EHESS), Francis Zimmermann, and in Pondicherry (IFP), Laurent Pordié, Head of the Social Sciences Department of the IFP.
