Seminar on health vulnerability in Chennai

The University of Madras, the University of Bonn and the French Institute of Pondicherry jointly organized at the IFP on March 15, 2008, a seminar on health and health vulnerability in the city of Chennai.
This seminar had as an objective to examine the health vulnerability factors incurred by the population of a big urban metropolis of South India, and to debate on the way the populations, notably the vulnerable slum populations, are facing it. It was the occasion to present the preliminary results of a cohort study of 220 households of two Chennai slums.
The city of Chennai was chosen for this study because of the emergence or re-emergence of several vector-borne diseases (dengue, malaria, chikungunya) and to diseases related to water pollution (diarrhea, leptospirosis,…)
