The Saiva Manuscripts on palm leaves of the IFP, have just been declared "National Treasures of India" (Vijnananidhi). This title was confered to around 40 collections selected among 400, by an Experts Comittee appointed by the National Mission of Manuscripts (NMM) of the Indian government.
The distinctions will be awarded in Delhi, during a function organised for the third anniversary of the NMM, and presided by the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh.
It is reminded :
- on one hand, that the IFP had been declared "Manuscripts Ressource Centre" in 2004 : with this respect the Institute had been confered with the inventory of the manuscripts of the Pondicherry region and South India.
- on the other hand, that the collection of Saiva Manuscripts of the Institute had been registered in the "World Memories" of the UNESCO, in July 2005.
