Programme “Population and Space”: the dividends of excellence

Home > News

The programme “Population and space in South India”, which has beneficiated from numerous collaborations in India and has been financially supported, apart from the IFP and the IRD, by the Welcome Trust and the United Nations Fund for Population (UNFP), was during many years one of the key projects of the Social Sciences Department of the IFP.

This programme, led by Cristophe GUILMOTO, Research Director at the IRD, which led to the publishing of numerous articles, 6 publications and a CD Rom, was officially completed end of 2004.

The scientific community however, still continues to reap fruits from this programme: I have the pleasure of informing you that 4 thesis were defended between 2004 and 2006, and that two of the PhD candidates, Sebastien Oliveau and Virginie Chasles, have just obtained posts of Lecturers, respectively at the Universities of Provence and Lyon II (France).

Cristophe Z. Guilmoto is presently Executive Director of the International Committee of Cooperation in National Research on Demography (CICRED)
