An “Open Day” devoted to the Manuscripts housed at the French Institute of Pondicherry (FIP) and the French School of Asian Studies (EFEO) in Pondicherry, was organised on Friday July 13, 2007. Specialists from both institutions presented the collections to the public, and provided explanations as to their preservation and cataloguing.

An on-line catalogue of the transcripts (paper manuscripts) was launched on that day, in the presence of the Governor of the State of Puducherry and the Director of the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM) of the Central Indian Government.

It is reminded, that: (i) the FIP holds the largest collection in the world of manuscripts on Shaiva Siddhanta ; (ii) the collection of Shaiva manuscripts of the FIP and EFEO is listed in the “Memory of the World” register of the UNESCO ; (iii) the Shaiva manuscripts on palm leaves of the IFP, have been declared "National Treasures of India" ; (iv) the IFP is one of the « Manuscripts Resources Centre » (MRC) of the NMM.
