The Bioinformatics Centre of the Pondicherry University (BICPU), India, organized a three day National seminar on the Recent Trends in Structural Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, from September 16-18, 2009. Delegates from all over India including Scientists, Teachers and Research students participated in the seminar. Experts in various areas delivered lectures on the focal themes of the seminar. Presentations were evaluated, and the BIOTIK software for computer-aided identification of the tree species of the Western Ghats, developed by the French Institute of Pondicherry (IFP), won the first prize. Dr. N. Ayyappan, who presented the BIOTIK application, received the prize.
